Evaluate unfamiliar software and infrastructure approaches against the work they would have to improve.

## What would it improve?

Name the task, the current method and the shortcoming. Decide how the new approach would be judged. A compelling demonstration is not a reason to add a dependency that solves no relevant problem.

## Look at the whole application.

An intelligent processing method may also need a usable interface, different hardware or a controlled deployment. Assess those requirements together, including the data and services the new component would depend on.

## Compare it with the current method.

Use representative inputs and the same evaluation conditions. Record failures, cost, resource use and the effort of integration alongside the successful result. Keep the trial separate from live work until the evidence supports moving further.

## Keep an exit route.

Check compatibility, updates, ownership of information and how the component could be replaced. A staged introduction makes it possible to assess the new approach without immediately discarding a working path.

## Bring a problem, not a trend.

Describe what you want to enable and why the current approach falls short. We can discuss an evaluation and the evidence needed to proceed, change direction or wait.
