# Virtualisation — Genyra

> Virtualisation architecture and migration planning for workload isolation, resource allocation, compatibility and recovery.

Virtualised environments that make application boundaries and resource allocation easier to understand.

## Know what the separation is for.

Virtual machines can isolate operating environments, consolidate infrastructure or support a staged migration. Identify the workload boundary and the operational benefit before deciding what should share a host.

## Account for contention.

CPU, memory, storage and network capacity are shared resources. Measure the demands of neighbouring workloads and test what happens when they are busy together. A guest’s allocation does not, by itself, explain the performance it will receive.

## Check what the application assumes.

Review operating-system requirements, hardware access, networking and software licences. Include the background jobs and connected systems that are easy to miss when testing only the main application screen.

## A snapshot is not the recovery plan.

Protect backups separately and test the route back to a working service. Restoring a virtual disk may still require database consistency, credentials, network configuration and another application to be available.

## Move with a way back.

Inventory the current environment, rehearse the move and check the application under representative use. Record configuration and rollback steps so the people operating the platform can repeat the work.
